What To Expect

Your First Visit

The goal of the initial visit to our office is to determine if any orthodontic treatment is necessary and, if so, when it would be appropriate to start. The first visit consists of an office tour, digital x-rays, pictures of the face and teeth, a clinical examination, initial diagnosis, and a discussion of orthodontic problems. Also, an estimate of treatment cost (if necessary) as well as a determination of insurance benefits is reviewed. If it is determined that the patient is ready for treatment, dental impressions of the teeth and supporting structures can be taken at this time.

Comprehensive diagnostic records (x-rays, pictures, plaster models of the teeth made from the impressions) are thoroughly analyzed by Dr. Tomassetti to determine the best course of treatment and to develop and individualized treatment plan.

Consultation and bonding appointment

For your convenience, we combine the consultation and bonding appointments. At this (the second) appointment, Dr. Tomassetti discusses your treatment with you in detail and appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) are placed. It is extremely important that good oral hygiene is maintained throughout treatment and proper techniques are reviewed at this appointment. This appointment usually takes from one to two hours.

Regular Appointments

Once the appliances are in place, you will visit us at regular intervals typically 6-10 weeks apart for adjustments. After a thorough hygiene evaluation and depending on your specific needs, numerous procedures may be performed to assure progress of your treatment. These appointments are usually shorter in duration.

Debonding Appointment

When treatment is completed, the braces are removed and post-treatment records are taken. Retainers are made and fitted to hold the teeth in place.

Payment & Office Policies

The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient's problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. We have payment plans to suit different budgets, including a no-down-payment option. We also accept assignment from most insurance plans, and file the necessary papers to the insurance company. We work hard to make orthodontics affordable.

In an effort to keep orthodontic fees affordable while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy:
  • If full payment is made at the onset of treatment, we offer a bookkeeping courtesy discount. (If you have insurance, we will offer a discount for payment of your portion of the fee that will not be covered by insurance.)
  • To fit your individual needs, financial arrangements can be made to extend your payments over a period of months.
  • For your convenience, we accept payment by VISA, MASTERCARD and DISCOVER.

Orthodontic Insurance

If you have orthodontic insurance, we will help you to determine the coverage you have available. We do recommend that you familiarize yourself with the details of your coverage to avoid any misunderstandings. After providing us with your insurance information, we will contact your insurance carrier directly to assist you in verifying and determining an estimate of benefits. The balance will be arranged for you to pay (see above). We will help in every way we can in filing your claim and handling insurance questions from our office on your behalf. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns regarding your insurance at 738-7600.
